Point on the vegetarian thing. Of course, if someone's a vegetarian for ethical reasons, then they should go all the way. Of course if someone's vegan for ethical reasons, I think they should go all the way too, and just not eat anything that was ever alive.

Nonsense. It makes perfect sense to say "intelligent life is sacred." In fact, you could just say "human life is sacred" and while I might not personally agree with you, your morals are internally consistent and I can't really argue with you except to say that you'd be unwise to act on those beliefs anytime I'm close enough to do something about it.
